Australian country music star, James Blundell, knows what it’s like to spend hours at a time on the road and he’s teamed with NHVR for a New Road Safety Message!

With the help of his guitar, James Blundell has teamed up with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) for its We All Need Space road safety campaign.

“Whether you’re a truckie, car driver or a touring artist like me, we all share the road and we all set out to get to our destination safely,” Blundell said.

More than thirty years on from releasing the original song, Blundell has put a creative new spin on his smash hit Way Out West.

New lyrics for the catchy tune emphasise the importance of giving trucks the space they need, so all drivers can share the road safely.

“Way Out West holds a special place in my heart, and over the years it’s become an Australian country classic,” he said. “I’m proud to put a new spin on the song, helping motorists understand a truly important message.”

“I relate to this campaign in more ways than one,” he said. “Having had my Heavy Vehicle Rigid licence since I was 19 years old, it’s safe to say I know my way around trucks and heavy machinery”.  “Way out west in regional Queensland, you see hundreds of road trains on the roads. “When a motorist is unaware of their surroundings, or doesn’t know how to share the road, things can go devastatingly wrong

NHVR Executive Director Michelle Tayler said the number of fatal crashes involving a heavy vehicle was significantly higher in regional areas compared to metropolitan areas.

“Across Australia this year, there’s already been 53 fatal crashes involving a heavy vehicle in regional areas, compared to 20 in metropolitan areas,” Ms Tayler said.

“These figures clearly tell us that we need to do more to get the message out there across all parts of the country to help save lives on our roads.

“It’s critical to give trucks the space they need, particularly on long, rural roads.

“We are always looking for new ways to educate drivers, and so the NHVR is extremely excited to welcome James to the campaign,” she said.

Both Ivan de Baugy (Sprint Express Owner and Director) and his son Josh de Baugy (Operations Manager), are both loyal followers of James Blundell and of course the great Slim Dusty, who have done so much for our Transport Industry!

MAY 2022

National Road Safety Week (15th – 22nd May 2022)

We need space to keep you safe!
Trucks can’t stop as quickly as your car. Take care to avoid merging in front of trucks, unexpectedly stopping, or overtaking when you don’t have a clear view ahead with ample space.
A B-Double Truck (unloaded) travelling at only 40km/h can take up to 35 metres to stop. If the same truck is travelling at 60km/h, the stopping distance almost doubles to 67 metres.
In comparison, a car (unloaded) travelling at 40km/h takes about 27 metres to stop and about 47 metres when travelling at 60km/h.
We all have a part to play in keeping our roads safe, let this #nationalroadsafetyweek be a reminder to drive so others survive.
For more information on how to drive safely with heavy vehicles on the road, head to the #dontmuckwithatruck resources from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator at https://www.nhvr.gov.au/dontmuckwithatruck

SEPTEMBER 2020 – (CUSTOMER UPDATE – HIGH VOLUMES IN WA)

Please be advised that we are currently experiencing an unprecedented amount of volume into the South West of Western Australia, this situation has been further compounded by a number of late rail services.

Indications are that this spike will continue for the next few weeks.

Whilst our Perth Depot is attempting to clear as much freight as possible, there is a back log and we are experiencing pickup and delivery delays.

Also note that some DC’s and Receivers are at or close to capacity and are pushing out loads which is also compounding our issues.

Note that additional fleet and equipment has been introduced to assist our WA Operation.

We ask customers and suppliers to please be patient.

We will continue to provide updates.

Please contact your local Sprint Express Representative should you require further information.

Regards,

Sprint Express Logistics Team

MARCH 2020

Smooth sailing for this recent international move!

Sprint Express Bunbury were contracted to undertake a movement of 500MT of subsea concrete mattresses utilised for stabilising pipes on the sea floor from Fremantle to Luanda, Angola. The movement was time sensitive in order to meet a project milestone and a solution was sourced that enabled the cargo to be last on and first off based on the specific port pairings required.

Using a purpose building lifting/installation spreader designed by the manufacturers of the mattresses, approx. 72 units were successfully collected from the manufacturer for pre-staging and subsequently loaded to the vessel using a combination of ship and shore cranes across the lower and tween decks.

The vessel arrived and completed discharge of the freight in Luanda without incident. Great work Sprint Team!

JANUARY 2020

Hi Josh,

On behalf of Vesuvius Global, I would like to thank you and the Staff at Sprint Express for the safe and well organised delivery of our product from NSW.

The job must have been a logistical nightmare with Hot Shot Vehicles and Aircraft on standby at Sydney and Perth Airport awaiting the go ahead.

Having worked with your team on previous projects it was a pleasure to work with you again.

The team was well set up leading and monitoring the entire movement.

We required a Number of Pallets Urgently Air Freighted to Country WA and had to be onsite within 18 Hours from Country NSW. With the current circumstances in the East with the devastating Bush fires, room on aircraft was very limited due to Road and Rail Closures into the West.

Your Team at Sprint Express went above and beyond for us – And the movement was another success.

Having Time Critical Vehicles Depart Botany, then Hotshot Direct to Sydney Airport then Air Freighted to Perth and Hotshotted to Country WA – The project was finished within the time frame allocated and was a complete success.

In transport you can rarely ‘win’ and it can be a very thankless task.

My team much appreciated the help carried out by Sprint Express to get the job done safely.

Thanks once again, and we look forward to our continued working relationship into 2020!!

Regards,

National Logistics & Procurement Manager
Vesuvius Global

SEPTEMBER 2019

Sprint Express Transport & Logistics in Bunbury were tasked with sourcing a solution to move X5 Cable Reel’s from Fremantle Port to a site located in the South West of WA

The single drum cargo was 8.6 m in diameter and 5.8 m wide, weighing in at 56 MT.

The X4 single drum cargo was 2.6 m in diameter and 2.0 m wide, weighing in at 17 MT

Sprint Express organised the move on an ASCL vessel with dual 60 MT cranes.

Their planning and execution had to be changed at the last minute due to another unrelated vessel, berthed nearby, suffering an oil spillage in Fremantle Harbour.

The disruption caused by the subsequent clean-up process meant we had to move the reel along the wharf face to the re-assigned berth for the ASCL vessel.

The planning change scope of work involved port handling, OOG transport and wharf stevedore co-ordination.

Both of the vessel’s cranes were used to perform a ‘dual’ lift to stow the reel on deck.

The entire movement was carried out effectively and efficiently, even with the forced change of plans, with no delays to the transit.
